Obi-Wan's experience gets him off Tatooine. But, he has to rely on his supporting characters to do most of the heavy lifting. The strength of his character comes from his can do attitude and desire to just do good. In this film, Luke gets:Īt no point during ANH does Luke display some amazing skills until the very end when he sits in a cockpit.

And, clowned just as hard by every two-bit antagonist. No, Luke is primarily shat upon the entirety of ANH by everyone. Luke is very much NOT your typical action-movie/fantasy hero, he's not the barrel chested stud who spouts one liners, everybody instantly falls in love with, always knows what to do, and can take out anyone that crosses his way. A clumsy kid that's usually out of his depth and actually kind of dumb.

However, besides this one self-proclaimed skill, he's mostly a clutz. He tells it to nobody in particular when no one is even asking. We know this because he never shuts up about it. In ANH, Luke is a whiny, farm-boy teenager whose pretty much only skilled at one thing, flying. And, that's okay.įirst, let's examine Luke Skywalker, specifically within ANH. The reality is that Rey IS different from Luke Skywalker, she is simply more naturally gifted with The Force than he was at the start of his tale. However, this is a false premise that misses the point.

But then, you'll have individuals responding that basically concede the point but argue that Luke was equally as powerful without "earning" it. For instance, certains fans point out how Rey is a "Mary Sue," she's too powerful without "earning" her talent. There is this weird argument I see a lot of times, often employed by both haters and lovers of TLJ or the ST as a whole and it concerns comparing Rey and Luke Skywalker.
